The Human Brain Is A Wonderful & Mysterious Thing

Sometimes, whether due to the Headache Bump, the Alzheimer's, or booze {nah. Can't be the booze. Booze is my BFF!}, I am unable to remember the names of familiar things. You know, people I work with, Puffy, a hammer... familiar & simple things. Wait ~ I'm not saying Puffy is simply. Cuz he's not. He's complex.

Whew. Did I put out that fire before it blazed away?

Other times, when Puffy & I are watching TV & the guest star on CSI is looking familiar, I can instantly blurt out that the dead hooker was on a Cheez Whiz commercial 6 years ago.

I don't know why my brain works like this, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who can rattle off facts or rumours or gossip or
IMDB histories off the top of my head ~ literally! I'm sure I'm not the only one who can recall conversations from eons ago verbatim, but can't remember what a toothbrush is called. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a photographic memory is some instances, but a poorly developed negative for other things. {Didja see what I did there with the photo verbage? Didja? I'm so clever!} I can't be the only one who is both a super-genius & an stammering idiot simultaneously.

I can't be the only one who remembers this:

Cool Nick!
Nic-o-tine!

♫Smoking makes your teeth... yellow!
Smoking makes your clothes... smellow!
His breath, it reeks, every time he speaks.
He thinks he's so cool, but he's being a fool.

We all must confess, we all tried to impress.
We stopped. We learned. With smoking you'll get burned.
So take our advice & do something nice. ♫

Stop.
Don't start.
Quit while you're ahead.*

Weren't the 70s grand?
TV jingles & quotes from 70s commercials make up a large part of my conversation. & it sucks, cuz most of my friends are younger than me & don't remember the 70s, & I'm really getting sick of hearing crickets & looking at blank faces. Or worse, concerned faces with their finger poised to dial 9-1-1.
So, any of you out there who not only remember these references but appreciate them, if you could let me know I'n not alone? That'd be great.

*DBM & the makers of DBM in no way, shape, or form endorse the quitting of smoking. This jingle was printed for entertainment purposes only. Smoke away, boys & girls! Smoke away.

Except for the specific jingle used as example, you've pretty much just described my life - SuperGeniusBlitheringIdiot. And, yup, I did notice what you did with the photo imagery. Nice touch.

Wild! I remember this commercial quite vividly. The anti-smoking campaigns of the 70s. I was surprised that someone else on Earth knows it, too. Nice one!

I totally remember this commercial. I hope it ends up on YouTube. I thought it was a great way to target youths without being too preachy. There was another "stop smoking" commercial at that time which was a stop-motion-type cartoon of a woman who was smoking a long cigarette. The music in the background was a tsssss-ts-ts-tsssssss of a cymbal. The background was bright pink. I remember they showed her losing her cigarette and starting to eat, so she turned into a balloon and popped. Then they showed her eating veggies and exercising, and two guys were whistling at her. Does anyone remember that one?

I've had that jingle in my head for decades... And still say the last lines to my kids, all the time! "Stop... Don't start... Quit while you're ahead" ... So glad I'm not alone with this earworm!

I went looking for that commercial on YouTube but couldn’t find it. Thank you for remembering it and sharing so I know I’m not crazy!. I was only about 5 or 6 when it came out, but I remember thinking it was really cool and mimicking it. Lol.
